The lid is on.

It's like a gift that keeps on giving. Since we've decided to have Mike strip the house, wrap it and then side it with Hardiplak you know about the doors and window thing. Well, the back patio cover worked for years, but wasn't done properly. Thankfully, it was put together with screws, so today we marked and took apart the jigsaw puzzle. Mike will put the anchor piece in properly and have it flashed properly. Then we'll do it right with sheathing, a layer to prevent condensation and metal. To accommodate light, we'll do a couple skylights. The Norwegian and Dutch methods of carpentry are getting a work over.

Okay, here's that lastest in house venting. It'll open at 50° and close below. Amazing, huh?

Roofing project

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know the name of the man Mike hired to do the roof. He did a marvelous job. I'll add completed shots tomorrow. He's been in America for about 10 years. He worked as an electrician in Mexico, on high voltage lines. When he came here he was "lucky" to get a job roofing. He's so proud of his three kids and that they speak English and do well in school. He has his residency and is working on citizenship. He's proud that his parents and other family members that are already citizens. Zoie shared some Spanish with him and he thought that was special. For anyone that frowns on immigrants from Mexico, I'd love for you to meet a hard working man, so proud to be here and not afraid to earn his way.

Tying into the existing roof.

Vance was once again Pa's right hand man. We're going to have some awesome weather, so Mike made the leap to the connecting to the house today. Vance and Pa were in charge of rounding up the old metal from the house and the old brackets. Pa was in charge of metal and Vance was in charge of brackets. The first shot is from inside the house and through the screen. I love how intent Vance was and I swear even before Mike tossed a bracket, Vance knew where it was going to end up and he was sprinting to it. Half of tie in will be completed today. The metal roofing was delivered, so Mike is busting his buns to get the lid on. Vance's reward for chasing down brackets was a motorcycle ride.

Some roof sheathing on.

Most of the roof sheathing is on. Mike is waiting for a couple day stretch of good weather to tie into the exiting house. You can see a couple of my birthday fascia boards up, lol. It rained today, but very little hit the inside. Today was the day that Bill and Mike decided on Oso Lumber the vendor from windows. Amazing how different the price can be for the same manufacturer. I think I've written before that most projects here are supplied by Oso Lumber. We're very happy that Mike uses them and he has buying clout there.
