Progress thru April 16

The outer wrap is coming along. The East and North ends are complete. Mike has started the wrap in the front and up to the porch door. Also this week the insulation was installed. The electrical inspector was here and Bill's wiring passed with kudos from the inspector. Next week Mike will continue on the front, which will include the new garden window for the kitchen and the new living room windows. Tuesday the sheet rocking will get underway and the heat ducts will be extended. It's getting exciting.

Things are happening inside too.

For those that have been to the house, some of this will make sense. Others, put on your imagination caps, lol.

Progress thru March 26th.

Wrap, vents and siding.

Yesterday Mike started wrapping the new section and working on the soffets. It was exciting to round the corner and see some of the siding up today. The color here is close. If you've ever had a Krispy Kreme mocha filled donut, the mocha is the color. We are using Hardi plank with the ColorPlus. The color, Woodstock brown, is baked on. We have no intention of ever painting again. The corners are molded and the same product will frame the windows. As the remodel is being done as "aging in place" so is the exterior, haha.

To stay with the theme of no wood to take care of, Mike is framing the vents with Trex. He also is making a custom flashing to keep the water on the outside. In the first pic you can see the vent open, then closed in the second.

The lid is on.

It's like a gift that keeps on giving. Since we've decided to have Mike strip the house, wrap it and then side it with Hardiplak you know about the doors and window thing. Well, the back patio cover worked for years, but wasn't done properly. Thankfully, it was put together with screws, so today we marked and took apart the jigsaw puzzle. Mike will put the anchor piece in properly and have it flashed properly. Then we'll do it right with sheathing, a layer to prevent condensation and metal. To accommodate light, we'll do a couple skylights. The Norwegian and Dutch methods of carpentry are getting a work over.

Okay, here's that lastest in house venting. It'll open at 50° and close below. Amazing, huh?

Roofing project

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know the name of the man Mike hired to do the roof. He did a marvelous job. I'll add completed shots tomorrow. He's been in America for about 10 years. He worked as an electrician in Mexico, on high voltage lines. When he came here he was "lucky" to get a job roofing. He's so proud of his three kids and that they speak English and do well in school. He has his residency and is working on citizenship. He's proud that his parents and other family members that are already citizens. Zoie shared some Spanish with him and he thought that was special. For anyone that frowns on immigrants from Mexico, I'd love for you to meet a hard working man, so proud to be here and not afraid to earn his way.
